If you are planning to visit New York and gathering the required information to get an idea about Dos and Don’ts in New York. Then you must have heard two types of things from the people.
Firstly, everyone will tell you how amazing the food of New York is, and secondly, they will comment on the size of the statue of Liberty as it is not as big as we might think.
For me, these places provide amazing food without being too over the top or expensive. When I visited these places, the only thing in my mind was that I want others to experience the same thing that I experienced because it was so good.
That is why I have compiled a list for you, as well as where they are, how to get to them and my personal opinion about them.
If you have never been to NewYork then these places are enough to provide you with an authentic New York experience. If you’re a resident of this city then you probably have been to all of them.
I consider them essential for you to meet them on one of your trips to New York because they are a classic of the Big Apple and I am convinced that you will return to this great city.
BURGUER JOINT
Every country has thousands of burger joints then what’s so special about this one? First of all, this is not your regular burger joint present at the street corner.
Instead, it is a cash-only burger joint present inside a high-end building. It is famous for its history and its delicious burgers of course.
What to Ask For?
Since it is a burger joint so you will have all kinds of burgers here. You have the normal hamburger, the normal double hamburger, the cheeseburger, and the double cheeseburger, so start thinking right away, what are you going to ask yourself. With a side of fries and a drink, you will be good to go.
Where is it
Burger Joint is located inside the Le Parker Meridiem Hotel at 119 West 56th Street, between 6th and 7th Ave.

From Sunday to Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
On Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 to 00:00.

Ellen’s Stardust Diner
Ellen’s stardust diner is essential for an authentic american experience. The food here may not be the best food you have eaten. But the experience you are going to get here might be once in a life time.
The restaurant is set in the late 50s theme. The waiters in this restaurant are mostly students who want to have a career in singing and dancing. So it is not unusual that you will get to see their performance on the tables and bars of the restaurant. This goes on all day as one person stops and another starts.
At lunchtime, it is usually somewhat calmer music, ballads. However, at dinner time, the atmosphere is lively, and they start with current rock and pop music, and songs from the most important musicals.
Menus and Prices
The menu is quite extensive, from appetizers like nachos, onion rings, nuggets, quesadillas, and a long etc, to the typical salads, burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and desserts. They also have special menus for the little ones.
It also has special menus in case you want to go to breakfast.
The food as I said before is nothing to write home about, so don’t expect something special.

From 07:00 to 00:00. Where they do not accept reservations and there is always a long line where you will have to wait. Although I sincerely believe that sometimes they do it on purpose so that there are always people waiting at the door and you see that there are people wanting to enter.
Katz’s Delicatessen
Another well-known restaurant in New York that you have surely heard of, and that if you have not heard of it, you may have seen it on television, since there is a very famous scene from the movie “When Harry met Sally.” Well, this scene is recorded inside this historic restaurant.
But apart from how famous this place can be for this scene, it is a restaurant that has been standing since 1888 and is a classic in New York.
At Katz´s, you will be able to find almost all kinds of food, but its star dish, and the one that I advise you to order, is its famous Pastrami Sandwich. Truly something delicious, I assure you.
How to order
It is a huge venue. I say huge and I do not fall short, I do not know what capacity it can have, but they say that in one day it can go to eat its famous sandwiches about 4000 people !.
You have two options, one option is the self-service area (it was the one we chose), and the other area is typical tables where waiters serve you.
As soon as you enter you have to collect a ticket, which you have to save as gold in cloth since if you lose it you have to pay a fine on departure ($ 50).
After you collect this ticket, you have to go to the self-service bar divided by zones, and depending on the zone, they serve you one thing or another, where you will request your food and they will write down what you have ordered on the ticket.
What to Order and Prices
Well, you have everything from the legendary pastrami or corn beef sandwich to hamburgers, salads, pasta dishes, pastrami omelets, desserts … The truth is that you have a little bit of everything, although as I said before, its star dish is the pastrami sandwich.
They also have fries to accompany, but if it is true that they do not stand out too much, instead you can choose the potato Latkes with sour sauce or applesauce, which is 12 $ what they are worth.

The restaurant is located at 205 East Houston Street (corner of Ludlow St). The closest subway is 2nd Avenue on lines F and M.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: From 08:00 to 22:45.
Thursday: From 08:00 to 02:45.

PIZZAS
Here we can enter a great war when it comes to knowing which is the best pizzeria in all of New York. Which can be a difficult choice, because you may like a flavor that I hate, or you may like pizza with more dough, and I prefer it finer.
So I am going to tell you about three very famous pizzerias in New York, and I am going to give you my personal opinion about the one we were in, since I only had time to be in one of them.
The three pizzerias that I am going to tell you about are Lombardi’s Pizza, Juliana’s and Grimaldi’s.
The last two have a rather peculiar history that you should know because the true owners of Grimaldi’s pizzeria are now the owners of Juliana’s, both of whom are in court and the two pizzerias are right next to each other.
GRIMALDI´S
One of the two pizzerias in New York that are in dispute for the territory of Brooklyn, and have a rather peculiar history.
There are several of these pizzerias throughout New York, but I am going to tell you the one I was in and the original one of all of them, which is the one located in Brooklyn.
I do not know how the pizzas will be in other pizzerias or in Juliana´s, but I assure you that the one we tried was dead. We liked it a lot, both the size, the mass, and the flavor of its condiments, so I recommend it 100%.
You can have pizza inside the premises, or what many people do is order it to go and walk closer (it is a few meters from Brooklyn Bridge Park) and enjoy sitting on the lawn with views of the Manhattan Sky Line.
What to Order and Prices
Just as I say that the pizzas are very tasty, I also tell you that they are not cheap.
We ordered a large pizza with 4 ingredients for both of them and it cost us $ 32. If you are one of those who drink water to eat like us, you do not need to ask for bottled water, because they put you some glasses of ice water that will be refilled as you drink it, so you can save a few dollars on that.

How to get
Although as I said before, Grimaldi can find several around New York, the real one is the one located in the Dumbo area of the Brooklyn neighborhood, exactly at 1 Front St, Brooklyn, NY 11201. It is just under the Brooklyn Bridge, so you will find it very easily.

Gray´s Papaya
Another of the essential places of fast and cheap food that you have to visit in New York if your arteries allow it and are not clogged by the amount of junk food that we carry, is the Gray’s Papaya and its famous hot dogs.
What to Order and Prices
The truth is that it is quite obvious what you are going to ask for, it is the authentic Hot Dog, to which you can add if you want cheese and / or chili with a supplement of $ 0.50.
To accompany it you can also order one of its famous fruit drinks, although the most coveted is Papaya.
The Simple Hot Dog is priced at $ 1.25.
The special Hot Dog is priced at $ 3.59.
